NAMES OF GOD THE FATHER

NAMES OF GOD THE FATHER

‘You will worship no other god for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous is a jealous God’ (Exodus 34:14).

This verse tells us the name Yahweh, sometimes spelt as Jehovah, Yehu, Yah, YHWH or in Hebrew, YEUE actually means Jealous.
It is the personal name of God and is not to be spoken lightly.
It was this name the Lord said in very strong words, was not to be taken in vain or the speaker would be cursed and put to death.
‘You will not use the name of Yahweh Elohim in vain (lightly or profanely) for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain’ (Exodus 20:7; Deuteronomy 5:11).
In these two verses, the name of God was written in the plural. YHWH (singular) Elohim (plural). The last three letters of the name Elohim – ‘h.i.m’ in Hebrew denote the plurality of the triune God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Elohim forbade taking His name in vain and since this is the triune name, that infers people are not to take the name of Jesus or the Holy Spirit in vain.
To do so is blasphemy (Mark 3:29).
