KING DAVID'S FAMILY David, the anointed King of Israel was the youngest of ten children. Nine children are named in this list but there was another son Elihu, who was left out of this list so we do not know where his place was in the family. ‘Elihu, one of the brothers of David’ (1 Chronicles 27:18). By reading the scriptures that refer to David’s family, we can get a ‘picture’ of what the family were like. His father Jesse earned his living as a shepherd and from what is written in the Bible, it appears Jesse was monogamous. SALVATION THROUGH THE BLOOD AND CROSS OF JESUS Why do we need a Saviour? The scriptures say the Lord was obligated to make atonement for sin because  He is our Creator and Father Who wants to save us from being lost for eternity. AARON AND MIRIAM Aaron was three years older than Moses. Miriam was much older than both her brothers. Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died yet his eyes were not dim nor his natural strength abated (Deuteronomy 34:7). Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died after climbing to the top of Mount Hor (Numbers 33:39). Miriam topped her brothers. After the children of Israel had left Egypt, Miriam would have been in her mid nineties but was still able to sing and dance. ‘Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron and Moses took a tambourine in her hand and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. Miriam sang, "Sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously, the horse and his rider He has thrown into the sea’" (Exodus 15:20 & 21). THERE IS TIME IN HEAVEN The time on earth is obviously vastly different to time in eternity but when God said the angels and cherubim in the throne room worship Him day and night, that tells us there is currently day and night even in heaven. In the lake of fire there will be torment day and night forever and ever, indicating there will eternally be day and night in the lake of fire. MAKING DISCIPLES Making disciples of all new believers is a direct command of Jesus Himself, spoken forty days after He rose from the dead and just before He ascended to heaven.  There is no verse in the Bible instructing us to plan outreaches but we are told to make disciples and to baptise everyone in Jesus’ name then we must teach new converts to obey the commands Jesus gave the twelve disciples.  People everywhere have to adhere to the doctrine of the Lord and to set an example by good behaviour. ‘Teach the things which fit sound doctrine … in all things show yourself an example of good works … showing all good fidelity to adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things’ (Titus 2:1, 7 & 10).  Mature disciples are to teach new converts to be disciples and thus produce more disciples.
