DEEPER MEANINGS OF ALLEGORIES IN THE BIBLE An allegory is a story in which the characters and events are symbolic of a deeper underlying meaning or  message.  It is surprising to read the number of events the Bible tells us about, that seem to be against God’s  will or opposite to His character, yet those events open our understanding of eternal life and the Gospel  message.  All through the Bible we read so many allegories and nuances, many people have trouble  understanding what the Lord could possibly mean and misinterpret what God is saying to us. ESAU SON OF ISAAC AND REBEKAH ‘Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to be his wife … Rebekah was barren so Isaac entreated  the Lord for his wife then Rebekah conceived.  The babies struggled together within her (causing distress).  Rebekah said, "If it be so, why do I live?"  She went to inquire of the Lord. NAMES OF GOD THE FATHER ‘You will worship no other god for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous is a jealous God’ (Exodus 34:14).  This verse tells us the name Yahweh, sometimes spelt as Jehovah, Yehu, Yah, YHWH or in Hebrew, YEUE  actually means Jealous.  It is the personal name of God and is not to be spoken lightly.  It was this name the  Lord said in very strong words, was not to be taken in vain or the speaker would be cursed and put to death. ‘You will not use the name of Yahweh Elohim in vain (lightly or profanely) for the Lord will not hold him  guiltless who takes His name in vain’ (Exodus 20:7; Deuteronomy 5:11).  In these two verses, the name of  God was written in the plural. YHWH (singular) Elohim (plural).
